What Drives You?

KeysHere’s a point to ponder for you … Does your life drive your faith or does your faith drive your life?

Do you work Jesus into your busy schedule, marking him off of your daily checklist when you get around to making time for him? Far too often, we get so busy with the business of living that we find little time to really settle into time with our Savior. We have our daily “to do” lists — getting kids ready for school. getting ready for work, feeding pets, rushing to beat traffic, our workday, rushing home to cook dinner, helping with homework, doing laundry, cleaning up, spending time with the family, paying bills — and then it’s off to bed to do it all over again tomorrow. Finding time to honestly pray, to study, or to worship in between all of our “must do stuff” is difficult at best. The “scheduled meetings” on Wednesdays and Sundays seem like all we can muster. This is when our lives drive our faith. I’ve never met anyone (myself included here) that hasn’t fallen into this trap at least a dozen (or a hundred) times.

When your faith drives your life, things get very different. Now I’m not saying that your daily checklist magically gets shorter. Folks still have to eat, sleep, work, clean, be participating family members … The thing is, when your faith drives your life, you recognize that each step you take is a step on a path that God created just for you. Things are no longer done on “autopilot” while you mentally plot out your next task. Each step has purpose and you find yourself having a running conversation with Christ throughout your day. That conversation will lead to a much more honest relationship with Him that will become as natural as breathing.
